For-profit companies and non-profit organizations use marketing and
human
resources to create and deliver products, services, and ideas. This course
explores: 1) business practices that are aligned with environmental
stewardship
and social responsibility standards; 2) the concepts and models of a market
orientation; 3) how markets are researched and targeted, and products
positioned, to meet consumer needs; 4) creating and pricing products,
developing
distribution channels, and implementing promotion campaigns; 5) managerial
and
leadership skills and styles; 6) how companies motivate employees and
develop
human capital; and 7) methods for recruiting, selecting, training, and
evaluating employees. What does sustainability mean, and how is it
manifested in
business? Various definitions of sustainability have been used, but all
share a
common understanding that sustainability refers to integrating
environmental,
social responsibility, and financial/economic elements in order to meet the
needs of people today without compromising Earth’s capacity to provide for
future generations. Said another way, practicing sustainability involves
balancing the three Ps: planet, people, and profits.

This course: Explores
ethical and policy issues that emerge from conduct of basic, applied,
translational, community-based, and biomedical research.
Topics include: research
misconduct, welfare of laboratory animals, human subjects research,
conflicts of interest, collaborative research, data collection and
management, mentorship and training, publication, authorship, and peer
review. Through a combination of lecture, small group discussion and
activities, and assigned case studies this course provides historical
perspectives and presents the current ethical, institutional issues, and
debates that arise during all phases of the conduct of research: (1)
design and planning, (2) implementation, and (3) dissemination.
Target audience: Students
with a broad range of exposure to research environments would benefit
from this course. The course will be of interest to students considering
team science and interdisciplinary research approaches.

guest speakers were excellent. Greatly appreciated how an effort was
made to bring in speakers relevant to our interests! Very good class!
The various topics & categories the course was divided into was very
helpful. Also, discussion after each topic helped with better
understanding of the topic being discussed.

The Portland Technology Development group of Intel Corporation currently
has openings for physical science Ph.D.s to support/direct R&D of
advanced processing methods. Candidates hired for these positions will
be responsible for developing the next generation of Intel's
microprocessors.
Ph.D.
candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related
fields are encouraged to apply. Criteria for selection include: a

JOB DESCRIPTION
PTD
Module Engineers are responsible for leading scientific research and
enabling manufacture of innovative device architectures coupled with the
realization of these architectures. Responsibilities include designing,
executing and analyzing experiments necessary to meet engineering
specifications for their process. A Module Engineer participates in the
development of intellectual property and the development of the
equipment necessary to exploit understanding gained in research (in
collaboration with equipment suppliers.) The Engineer must work
effectively with the equipment supplier to identify shortcomings,
propose and evaluate hardware modification to mitigate issues and
operate the manufacturing line in order to integrate the many individual
steps necessary for the manufacture of complex microprocessors. Module
Engineers are also responsible for overseeing in-situ ramp to
manufacturing volumes to demonstrate that the technology meets
requirements while simultaneously transferring the technology to
counterparts in manufacturing via 'Copy Exactly!' methodology. Module
ownership includes the install and qualification of manufacturing
capacity at the development site and audit installation/qualification
and supervision of first full loop at the production site. Must hold a
PhD.
Qualifications
You
must possess a minimum of a Ph.D. degree majoring in Physics, Material
Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
Criteria
for selection include: a strong academic record, demonstrated
experimental and data analysis expertise, superior critical thinking
skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, creativity
and flexibility to thrive under changing priorities, strong teamwork
skills, an ability to drive and take responsibility for projects and a

BS-MS Program Deadline Extension
We have extended the deadline for nominations to our BS-MS combined bachelor and master's degree students to August 15, 2015.
The
BS-MS combined degree program provides early acceptance into our highly
competitive MSEE program for those students with an orientation towards
academic research that wish to take their education to the next level.
The BS-MS selection process is different than our standard graduate
admission pathway:
- Interested students must solicit two nominations from UWEE faculty, one of whom will agree to serve as their research advisor.
- Interested students must demonstrate a cumulative gpa above 3.7 for consideration, be a current UWEE student (Seattle campus only) and have completed through their third year of undergraduate study or 135 quarter credits.
