Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI)

The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories. Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 17 DOE National Laboratories. They perform research, under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers, on projects related to ongoing programs.
The SULI program is sponsored and managed by the DOE Office of Science’s, Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) in collaboration with the DOE National Laboratories.

Applications for the SULI program are solicited annually for three separate internship terms. Internship appointments are 10 weeks in duration for the Summer Term (May through August) or 16 weeks in duration for the Fall (August through December) and Spring (January through May) Terms. Each DOE National Laboratory offers different research opportunities; not all DOE National Laboratories offer internships during the Fall and Spring Terms.

DOE WDTS also partners with the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the Summer Term each year; institutions associated with select NSF programs may apply to NSF for supplemental funds to support a SULI Summer internship at a DOE National Laboratory. More information about eligible NSF programs can be found at link.

SULI applications are now open for Fall term candidates.   Applications will be accepted till May 31st at 11 PM EDT.  This deadline includes receipt of the references.  Applications will be available to review by lab researchers on June 15th.

Applications are now open for the SC12 Broader Engagement Program!!!

This year's International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis (SC) will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah from November 10 until November 16. The Broader Engagement (BE) component of the SC12 Communities Program focuses on increasing the involvement of individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups in the SC12 conference and in the High Performance Computing (HPC) domain. Through this program, competitive grants will be made available to support travel to and participation in the SC12 technical program and exhibits.

Applications for the BE program are currently being accepted. Individuals from underrepresented groups in HPC and belonging to any computing-related disciplines are encouraged to apply. The applicants can either choose to apply under the Standard Track or the Advanced Track. While the Standard Track is intended for newcomers to SC, the Advanced Track is intended for the returning and/or advanced BE participants who are interested in accessing the tutorials with partial support from the conference.
