Digital Control invented, and was first to market, innovative underground guidance technology that allowed contractors to control the pitch angle of the drill head tooling and measure its depth below ground. Since the introduction of this revolutionary technology over 20 years ago, Digital Control has been at the forefront of trenchless technologies that enable the efficient distribution of underground utilities, fiber optic, telecom, gas, sewer and water lines. Our products are used around the world by distribution contractors and are valued for their durable design, ease of use and Digital Control’s uncompromising commitment to customer service.  Our Kent, Washington headquarters is currently seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test to join our innovative engineering team.

This individual will be an intricate part of the development process, working and coding side by side with software design engineers through the entire product lifecycle.

As an SDET you will design and write automation software, design and deploy complex test suites and work with stakeholders to improve the quality of our products.  In addition, you’ll drive testability and quality into our architectures and designs, deploy our beta products, and establish and enforce engineering standards across the organization.

We are looking for individuals with strong coding experience in C/C++ and C#.  College graduates with a strong background in programming and desire to learn with good understanding of object-oriented design, data structures and algorithms will be considered, however, they must be able to quickly learn C++, C# and the subtleties of testing software through training and on-the-job experience.  The applicant must be able to work independently with little supervision, yet know when to ask questions and get help.  Applicants must have a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.  Experience with embedded systems, device drivers, networking, hardware and industry test and coding experience and demonstrated feature ownership throughout the complete product lifecycle (test collateral including test plans/specifications, test cases, automation, simulator/test harness development) preferred.

Our SDET’s write as much (or more) code as our product developers.   SDET designs are as complex and challenging as product designs.  Automation code is held to the same quality bar as product code.  SDET’s peers are software developers and they work as a team to get our products delivered on schedule and with high quality.
