Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad

Eligible for Pell Grants? Planning to study abroad in spring 14 or later? Come to a Gilman Scholarship info session on Wednesday, 6/5 from 1:30 - 2:30pm in MGH171!
It'll be led by UW Student Celia Gurney, who received the Gilman Scholarship for her study abroad in Brazil. Visit http://www.iie.org/en/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program for more info about the Gilman Scholarship!

Are you planning to study abroad during the spring of 2014 or later? Are you a Federal Pell Grant recipient? Do you want help covering the costs of your study abroad program?

If you answered yes to all three of the above questions, you should come to the Gilman Scholarship Workshop!

Every year, the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship is awarded to hundreds of undergraduate students who want to study abroad but have limited financial means. You could be one of those students - all you have to do is apply. The next application cycle ends October 1, so if you're interested, now is the perfect time to start planning.

To learn more, come to the Gilman Scholarship Workshop on Wednesday, June 5th, from 1:30-2:30 in MGH 171. At the workshop, you will:
-       read and analyze sample essays
-       begin working on your own application
-       learn money-saving travel tricks
-       talk to a past recipient about her experience
The workshop will be led by Celia Gurney, a UW junior who studied in northern Brazil this past fall.

PhD Programs at USC: REACH 2013

Greetings from the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.  I hope this letter finds you well.
The Viterbi School is pleased to announce its annual REACH event for prospective Ph.D. students, October 24-25, 2013.
REACH brings to the University of Southern California campus talented students from all over the U.S. who are considering pursuing a Ph.D. in an engineering field. This event is particularly geared toward students from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in the field of engineering: African-American, Latino and Native American. Travel expenses to and from Los Angeles, hotel lodging, and meals are subsidized by the Viterbi School.
Students with a background in engineering, mathematics, or a physical science who are entering their junior year in fall 2013 are invited to apply to REACH. As a selected participant, students will attend presentations by faculty about doctoral research opportunities; tour the USC campus and the engineering facilities; meet with current students to learn about graduate student life; and attend workshops on applying for PhD admission and funding graduate study. This experience will provide participants a unique opportunity to gain valuable tools and resources to prepare for application to doctoral programs upon graduation.
I encourage you to share this message with your talented students. They can visit the REACH webpage for more information and to complete an interest form (application will open in summer 2013).
