Professional portfolio workshops for engineering students

Would you like to have a professional communication portfolio to share with prospective employers or graduate schools?
Would you like to learn how to develop a portfolio that makes an argument about how prepared YOU are to communicate as a practicing engineer?
Would you like to work on this in a studio setting with a small group of your peers where you provide feedback and support to each other?
If so…. participate in our research study during Winter Quarter 2011.

It’s for a very good causewe are seeking to improve the educational experience for engineering students here at the University of Washington and across the nation.

That is why it is so important to hear from you by January 10, 2011!

WHO: We are looking for students to participate in a portfolio development program that will complement their academic year at the UW.
WHAT: Participate in five 2-hour studio sessions.
During sessions: Learn how to create a portfolio and work with other study participants to further individual goals. Also, fill out short surveys designed to help the research team track the progress of the study.
Between sessions: Draw on your life-wide experiences to develop a professional communication portfolio that you can show prospective employers and use to further your professional goals. Also, participate in a one-on-one interview with a researcher, to help the research team track the progress of the study.
At the end of the quarter: Turn in a portfolio and receive feedback.
WHEN: During Winter Quarter 2011 you will attend studio sessions once per week for five weeks.
WHERE: On campus at the University of Washington.
You will receive up to $200 as compensation for your time and effort at the conclusion of the quarter.

This study is funded by the National Science Foundation and supported by the UW’s College of Engineering. Researchers are from the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering.
