Study water engineering in Jordan for 1 month - new information sessions scheduled

Interested in Study Abroad? Interested in water and the environment in an International context? The CEE department is offering the study abroad course, "CEE 497 / CEE 598: ENGINEERING JORDAN, WATER IN AN ARID LAND" in late August/Early September.

Student learn about the cycle of water engineering from water resource to wastewater reuse in the backdrop of one of the most water-poor nations in the world, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Students in the course live and study side-by-side with students from the Jordan University of Science and Engineering. This will be the third year in which this class has been offered and it has been getting rave reviews from past students. Space is limited.  Applications to enroll must be submitted by March 1.

This is a unique opportunity and is one of only a few engineering study abroad opportunities sponsored by the College of Engineering.

Lloyd V. Berkner Space Policy Internships Summer 2014 for Undergrads - applications due 7 Feb.

The goal of the Lloyd V. Berkner Space Policy Internship is to provide promising students with the opportunity to work in the area of civil space research policy in the nation's capital, under the aegis of the National Research Council’s Space Science Board.  The summer 2014 program is only open to undergraduates.  The deadline for applications is February 7.  Candidate(s) selected for will be contacted no later than March 7.  Additional information about the program, including application procedure, can be found at http://sites.nationalacademies.org/SSB/ssb_052239 .

REU Summer Assistantships in Radio Astronomy, Solar System Studies & Atmospheric Sciences at Arecibo Observatory

Arecibo Observatory will conduct a summer student program, funded by the National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program, at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico during Summer 2014. Areas of research include radio astronomy, solar system studies and atmospheric and space sciences. Students interested in electronic instrumentation or computer science are also encouraged to apply. The assistantships, which include a stipend, accommodation, and round trip airline tickets, are conducted during a flexible ten week period beginning in June. Students will have opportunities to visit many of the beautiful sites of Puerto Rico, which is a U.S. Commonwealth.

The application for the 17th Annual UW Undergraduate Research Symposium is now open!  The Sym­po­sium will be held on May 16, 2014 in Mary Gates Hall.  Last year, more than 1,000 under­grad­u­ates par­tic­i­pated.

The Personal Statement is an important part of an application package. Applying for scholarships, internships, and graduate/professional programs often requires a personal statement or application letter. This type of writing requires you to outline your strengths confidently and concisely, which can be challenging. Personal Statement workshops will provide students with essential information to develop an understanding of not only writing about their interests, eligibility and suitability for applications, but also to learn how their statements provide evidence of their achievements that aren’t reflected in other parts of an application. Looking for student programmers

We're looking for students with programming skills (PHP, Python, Ruby and/or Java) to work on open-source health informatics software with the UW’s Clinical Informatics Research Group (CIRG) this quarter (and possibly longer). Requires experience working with Linux systems and databases; health/clinical experience not necessary.

This is a paid gig and a great opportunity to gain experience working with teams on domestic and international clinical and public health informatics projects. Likely opportunities for collaboration on posters and publications. Work includes mobile development with open source tools such as Apache Callback/Cordova, cPRO, and OpenDataKit.
