The 21st century has rightly been called the information age, as advances in computation have
resulted in an explosion in the amount of information created and communicated on a daily basis.
However, current information technology is reaching a limit in terms of speed and power
consumption, and need for new devices (electronic and optical) is apparent. Nanotechnology
holds the key to further this innovation. Along with information technology, nanotechnology
plays an important role in energy science and the health care.
In this course, you will learn scientific concepts (electromagnetics, semiconductor physics and
quantum mechanics) to understand emerging nano-electronic and nano-photonic devices. Along
with mathematical techniques, you will learn about nanotechnology via literature survey,
problem solving and numerical simulations

This position is in Dolby’s Sound
Technology Research Group and involves the creation and refinement of innovative audio signal
processing technologies from conception through proof of concept and first
reduction to practice. Primary research focus
areas include perceptual audio coding, parametric audio coding, and
psychoacoustic modeling. Secondary research
topics fall within the broader field of audio and acoustics signal processing. This role requires close collaboration with
other R&D staff, and includes opportunities for proposing new research directions
and project leadership. We are seeking a
self-motivated, highly talented team player that is interested in applying
his/her skills to enhance audio delivery and reproduction from content creation
to consumer device playback. Research
results will be evaluated through objective performance metrics and subjective
listening tests. We work in teams that interact
with other internal groups in multiple geographies as well as potential
customers of the technology.
Requirements: Candidates must have
these skills or background.
· Ph.D. Electrical
Engineering with 3 years of algorithm development experience, or MS Electrical
Engineering with 5 years of algorithm development experience
· Demonstrated strong
ability to create fundamentally new audio signal processing technologies in the
form of technical papers, products, and/or patents
· Proficient in the advanced
theory and application of digital audio processing and filterbanks
· Strong interest and
curiosity in learning, researching and creating new audio processing
technologies
· Team-oriented work

· Excellent communication
skills
· Proficient in MATLAB
and C/C++ language programming
· Expertise in all of
the following:

Hydrogen Education Foundation Student Design Contest Information
On
behalf of the Hydrogen Education Foundation (HEF), the students of your
university are invited to participate in the 2016 Hydrogen Student
Design Contest: “Development of a Hydrogen Powered Microgrid for Grid
Services and Back-Up.” The Hydrogen Student Design Contest (www.hydrogencontest.org) is an annual competition that has been funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, NREL, and industry sponsors since 2004.
This
year’s contest will challenge students to design a hydrogen-powered
microgrid capable of powering a town, military installation, port, or
similar large facility for approximately 2 days, and be able to handle
at least 10% of peak demand while the microgrid is active. The system
should utilize local resources to produce and store hydrogen as well as
provide hydrogen dispensing capabilities to hydrogen fuel cell vehicles
(HFCEVs). The system should be optimized for as little environmental and
economic impact as possible.
The
top team(s) will receive a paid trip to the Department of Energy’s
Annual Merit Review in Washington, DC to present their plan to a diverse
audience of industry, academic, and government leaders, have their
winning entry published in the IAHE International Journal of Hydrogen
Energy, participate in a Department of Energy webinar, and have the
chance to secure an internship with an industry sponsor.

Summer Internships at the Air Force Research Lab in Rome, NY
Many of you have asked me to let you know when the Information Directorate of the Air Force Research Lab posted information about summer internships. US citizenship is required. The applicant must be eligible for a security clearance. AFRL's Information Directorate is researching and solving the Air Force's toughest information technology challenges as applied to the air, space, and cyber domains. Located at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park, the Rome Research Site campus is situated on six acres and houses some of the finest research and development facilities in the country. Our research focus areas include the full spectrum of information technologies including cyber and information operations, information fusion and exploitation, communications and networking, decision support and planning systems, secure data sharing and information dissemination, and intelligent information systems technologies. We anticipate bringing in as many as 30 summer interns as well as 70 visiting professors (some with students in tow). Summer is indeed an exciting time to part of our laboratory.
