summer research program in the nuclear field at Penn State—the
Toshiba-Westinghouse Undergraduate Fellows Program:

Made possible through a gift from Toshiba-Westinghouse, the Toshiba-Westinghouse Undergraduate Fellows Program is a
10-week paid summer program that provides an unparalleled
opportunity for undergraduates to obtain hands-on research experience
and professional development in the nuclear field at Penn State.
Participants will work closely with a faculty mentor on
a state-of-the-art nuclear research project, and will have terrific
opportunities to network with industry representatives and participate
in site visits to locations such as Three Mile Island.
The program runs from
May 30—August 4, 2016. Fellows will receive a $6000 stipend as well as on-campus housing. We will accept applications via our website until January 31, 2016. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year by the start of summer 2015 and
have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

New Study Abroad Scholarships for STEM Majors
UW Study Abroad is excited to announce new scholarships for STEM majors studying abroad in the 2016-17 academic year.
The first scholarship, GO! STEMXchange, offers up
to $5000 to STEM majors participating in a departmental or
university-wide exchange program. Washington State residents eligible
for financial aid (students do

New Master of Applied Bioengineering program
The
Master
of Applied Bioengineering (MAB)
integrates engineering
design and entrepreneurship education
to address unresolved
clinical issues. MAB students will begin their 12-month program with a
clinical preceptorship, during which they learn to identify unmet needs.
The students will gain the skills to design
marketable solutions in the year-long biodesign series, and the program
culminates in a summer.

communication system concepts. This work addresses the DoD's

parametric analysis, field testing, and data collection to prove new

Lincoln Laboratory's Advanced Undersea Systems and Technology Group
seeks a summer intern to be involved in supporting development of
advanced acoustic signal processing techniques. In particular, the
reassigned spectrogram (or time-corrected instantaneous-frequency
spectrogram) is a spectral analysis tool often used to determine the
precise instantaneous frequencies and associated times of occurrence of
spectral components in an acquired signal of interest. It has been
described in the literature as an effective method of analysis for,
among other things, human speech, animal communications, and music. In
this project, we would like to explore various aspects of the reassigned
spectrogram including efficient implementations, display methods
(specifically artifact removal/de-noising), and extensions to the
