2013 Summer Research Experience at USC

I represent the Viterbi School of Engineering's graduate program and would like to introduce you and your students to the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at the University of Southern California.

Students completing their Junior year have an opportunity to spend summer break working alongside USC’s world-class faculty on cutting-edge research in engineering and computer science. They will make new friends, gain valuable research experience, and receive a stipend for living expenses in Los Angeles!

Applicants to the Summer Research program should be outstanding undergraduate students in engineering or computer science who will begin their senior year in fall 2013 and must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada.

Supporting UW Student Veterans

The transition from active deployment to civilian life is one that many soldiers look forward to, but one that often proves to be more challenging than expected. Soldiers may feel that they are returning to an unfamiliar environment or that exposure to the sights and sounds of war have left them a changed person. Even soldiers who have not been exposed to such traumatic events have typically experienced the cumulative stresses of living in harsh environments, separation from loved ones and deferring other life ambitions.  As more and more student veterans join the UW, how can we best support them in and out of the classroom?  Join us as we work towards answering this question and other related questions.

On behalf of the Career Center, Husky United Military Veterans (HUMV), and the Veteran’s Center, please mark your calendars and join us for a Student Veteran Panel. At this event, you will hear from student veterans, Tim Wold, Director of the UW Veteran’s Center, and guest speaker, Robert Stacey, Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, who will provide his thoughts on how we might best support our student veterans.

This event is a golden opportunity to hear directly from student veterans, receive information on valuable campus resources, and establish relationships within the student veteran community at UW.

UW SWE Scholarship Opportunity

It is with great pleasure that the Society of Women Engineers invites you to apply for a scholarship awarded by the Society of Women Engineers.

STUDY ABROAD IN 2013/14- University Exchange application deadline is January 15, 2013.

Thinking about studying abroad in 2013/14 for UW credit? Would you like to enroll for a semester or an academic year in a top-rated university in another country? If your answer to these questions is “yes” then please apply to one of more than 70 university student exchanges available through UW Study Abroad.  The application deadline for 2013/14 exchanges is next Tuesday, January 15, 2013 so don’t delay!

The Freshman Interest Group (FIG) and Transfer Interest Group (TrIG) program is looking for outstanding UW undergraduates to serve as FIG/TrIG Leaders for autumn 2013.

The program is looking for students from all departments who are UW-Seattle undergraduates with strong organizational skills (i.e., not over-committed), and a genuine interest in working with freshmen as they face the challenges and opportunities presented to them as new students.  Having been in a FIG/TrIG as a freshman is not required.

As a FIG/TrIG Leader, students will develop a deeper connection to the University while developing helpful skills in public speaking, discussion facilitation, lesson plan development, and principles of instructional leadership.  All of these skills will be utilized while instructing a class of 20-25 freshmen enrolled in General Studies 199.

Training will take place during spring quarter 2013.  Special arrangements for summer training can be made for students studying abroad during spring quarter.  FIG/TrIG Leaders are eligible to receive up to 6 credits for their commitments to the program, which includes both training for and teaching the General Studies 199 course in autumn quarter.
