Consider the Fulbright U.S. Student Program (http://us.fulbrightonline.org/home.html). This program is designed to give students, artists, and other professionals opportunities to pursue research, graduate study or English teaching experience in over 155 nations worldwide.
The application cycle for the 2012-2013 Fulbright U.S. Student competition is open. The UW deadline for applications from all 3 campuses is September 14, 2011.
WHAT IS A U.S. STUDENT FULBRIGHT GRANT?
It allows for individually designed study/research or an English Teaching Assistantship. You can propose a project and/or study plan that will take place during one academic year in a country outside the U.S.
It provides support for study/research/teaching in a single country. (Limited opportunities exist for traveling to more than one country.) You can meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences.
It facilitates cultural exchange. Through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in daily tasks, you can gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think.
It promotes mutual understanding. Through engagement in the community, you can interact with your hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom.

To be eligible, you must be:
1) A U.S. citizen,

2) A graduating senior or hold a B.S./B.A. degree, master’s or doctoral degree candidate, or a young professional or artist,

In addition, medical facilities may be inadequate or unavailable for existing medical problems; this is the reason behind the requirement for a medical exam and medical clearance for a specific assignment.)
PROGRAM DETAILS
Awards grants in all fields of study.
Awards approximately 1,500 grants for travel to over 155 countries worldwide.
Offers one academic year of study, research, or teaching assistantship experience. Projects may include university course work, independent library or field research, or professional training in the arts.
Preference is given to candidates who have not had extensive recent experience abroad (excluding undergraduate study abroad) in the country of application.

Autumn 2011 Course: 1st Course in Biomedical Imaging Concentration
Starting Autumn Quarter 2011, the Department of Bioengineering will offer a new, three-course program in Biomedical Imaging. This program is for students interested in a career in state-of-the-art biomedical imaging techniques. The courses were developed by UW Bioengineering and Radiology and will be taught by Drs. P Kinahan (Radiology), R Wang (Bioengineering), and X Gao (Bioengineering).
Coursework combines principles of engineering and molecular and cellular biology with essential elements from physiology, anatomy, physics, computer science, and mathematics to provide a rigorous background for career development in industrial and academic environments.
The modular program is designed to allow individual students to work with their advisors to design a course of study based on the interests and career goals of the student. In-depth training on the fundamentals of image science is emphasized for all biomedical imaging students. The students should have one year background in linear systems and frequency domain analysis.
The first course in the series, Autumn 2011, is: Biomedical Imaging Systems, taught by Drs. Paul Kinahan and Ricky Wang
Synopsis of the Course:
Modalities covered include MRI, CT, ultrasound, nuclear, and optical imaging. For each modality the basic mechanisms are described, leading to a systems model of the imaging process.
Fundamental similarities between the imaging equations of different modalities will be stressed.

• Provide web, database, and other technology support for the Undergraduate Research Program including routine URP website updates.
• Additional responsibilities include assisting in daily operations including the development, production, and distribution of URP publication materials; office organization; program outreach; performing a variety of support functions for URP programs and events, including the Undergraduate Research Symposium; and occasional front desk reception support for the Center for Experiential Learning and Diversity.

• Excellent for students who are already involved or interested in undergraduate research.
• Valuable for students who want to gain professional working experience and/or learn about student services in higher education.
• Work with friendly staff in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Requirements:
