Seeking Student Volunteers for the 2013 International Microwave and RFIC Symposiums

Dear Students,

I’d like to bring to your attention a great opportunity coming up in early June, to participate in both the International Microwave Symposium, and RFIC Symposium. Both of these events are part of Microwave Week and will be held at the Downtown Convention Center in Seattle, June 2-7th. This is the largest wireless event of its kind, held once a year, someone where in North America. We are fortunate this year to have the conference in Seattle, see below websites for details on the conference.

We are currently looking for student volunteers from across the country. Given that our conference is in Seattle, I think it would be tremendous to have a strong presences from the University of Washington; rumor is that quite a few students from WSU an OSU have already signed up. J I would encourage any student with an interest in wireless related research to seriously consider volunteering for the conference. To submit an application to volunteer, please use the following website.

There are A LOT of perks associated with volunteering for the conference and these include,

  • Free conference registration
  • Free registration for a workshop for each full day of additional work (half day for a half day workshop).
  • Food and beverages will be provided during hours of service, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.  What student doesn’t love a free meal!
  • Eligibility to win great raffle prizes and have the opportunity to attend special events.
  • An invitation to attend the Student Reception and the Student Awards Luncheon.

UW will also have a booth during the entire conference. This will highlight some of the research that takes place both within our department, and across the University.
For any questions related to student volunteering, please contact Ryan Pang, rpang.IMS2013@gmail.com, who is the University Relations Chair. Below and in the attachments, you will find the official call for student volunteers. The deadline to submit an application is May 1st, so please consider applying very soon. Again, it would be great to have a lot of students from the University of Washington, given that the conference is in Seattle, so please sign up soon!

Cheers,
Chris

Dear Students,

We’d like to take this opportunity to invite the University of Washington to showcase your school’s activities and projects from a complimentary booth at the International Microwave Symposium (IMS) this June 4-6. The IMS is one of the largest technical conferences and trade shows, covering all aspects of high frequency technologies and industry. The conference was last held in the Pacific Northwest in 2002 and we are excited to once again host IMS in Seattle at the Washington State Convention Center, where we will be able to focus the world’s attention on our universities, industries, culture, and environment.

I hope you will seriously consider making a reservation for a university booth. We believe that it will provide your school and your projects exposure to thousands of engineers and technical leaders in the radio frequency, microwave, and millimeter wave industries.  The opportunity to interact with leading industry professionals could lead to collaboration with key industry partners or inspire your next great innovation.  Meeting the many product representatives could also lead to invaluable contacts that ultimately provide sources of products and processes necessary for your continued research.

The IMS would also like to invite your students to serve as volunteers who help with many tasks that are critical to the success of the conference. IMS student volunteers receive a valuable introduction to the engineering community and to the high frequency industry. The experience of volunteering at IMS can lead to industry contacts that may eventually lead into a job and a career.  Student volunteers also receive some great perks, including:
  • Free conference registration
  • Free registration for a workshop for each full day of additional work (half day for a half day workshop).
  • Food and beverages will be provided during hours of service, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.  What student doesn’t love a free meal!
  • Eligibility to win great raffle prizes and have the opportunity to attend special events.
  • An invitation to attend the Student Reception and the Student Awards Luncheon.

Please encourage your students to participate in what we believe is an invaluable experience. Students can find more information, including the registration form, at http://www.ims2013.org/student-volunteers.html. The deadline to register as a student volunteer is May 1st. Any questions should be directed to Ryan Pang (rpang.IMS2013@gmail.com, 425-237-9549).

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to be a part of IMS. Please contact Candi Wooldridge (Candi@mpassociates.com, 303-530-4562) for more information on university booths. Booth registration is done on a first-come-first-served basis; the deadline to register is April 15th.

Additional conference information can be found on the IMS website: http://www.ims2013.org. We look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Sincerely,
Tom Raschko
