FLAS fellowships Due October 15, 2011

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS)

This is a great opportunity for Engineering UG and Graduate Students to received Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS) through the Jackson School of International Studies. FLAS is especially interested in recruiting Engineering students - too few apply. The foreign language and regional studies requirements are not exactly stringent so more Engineering students should think about taking this opportunity. This is an ideal opportunity for all those students participating in "Engineers without Borders" to get real funding to pursue global engineering projects. Summer only fellowships are possible!


Receive tuition and a living stipend:
AY Graduate: $18,000 tuition, $15,000 living stipend
AY UG: $10,000 tuition, $5,000 living stipend
Summer UG or Grad: $5,000 tuition, $2500 living stipend.


The National Resource Centers of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies offer FLAS Fellowships to students studying the following languages and their respective regions:

-Arabic -Bangla -Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian -Bulgarian -Burmese -Canadian First Nations -Chinese -Czech -Danish -Estonian -Filipino/Tagalog -Finnish -French -German -Hebrew -Hindi -Indonesian/Malay -Italian -Japanese -Kazakh -Khmer -Korean -Latvian -Lithuanian -Norwegian -Persian -Polish -Portuguese -Russian -Slovenian -Spanish -Swahili -Swedish -Tajik -Thai -Turkish -Uighur -Urdu -Uzbek -Vietnamese The FLAS Fellowship is available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
Application available online October 15 and due January 17, 2012.
