The State Department of Commerce is seeking two graduate students to assist in the analysis of the implementation of a network of electric vehicle charging stations.
The Washington State Departments of Commerce and Transportation have partnered in a project that involves the funding, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the deployment of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) along certain interurban corridors in the State. For a recent presentation on the project, see www.ElectricDrive.wa.gov.
Since this is the first time that a of project of this characteristics is undertaken, the State of Washington is giving high priority to the rigorous analysis of the key elements of the project. The students working with the State Department of Commerce will provide analytic support to the work of this partnership, which also involves working with other state stakeholders and car companies. The students will present their work at a state or national meeting.
The qualified candidates will have training at the graduate level in at least one of the following areas: a) geographic information systems; b) network analysis and/or graph theory; c) systems dynamics; and f) electrical or mechanical engineering. Experience using Matlab/Simulink, and Stata or SPSS is a plus.
The students will be hired under a paid internship program with the University of Washington for a period of approximately six months (negotiable) for a minimum of 10 hours a week. The internship will cover tuition and provide a monthly stipend. Work hours are flexible, though candidates should expect spending a few hours a week at the offices of the Department of Commerce in downtown Seattle.
