Undergraduate Research Credits for Summer

We are looking for motivated undergraduate students to contribute to an underwater wireless communication project. You will have an opportunity to work with researchers in wireless communications and earn research credit. 

Qualifications: Experienced in C/C++ programming in Linux, debugging, and basic understanding of the communication protocol stack and networking.
Expectations: Program and debug, operate acoustic modems, conduct field studies in teams. 1-2 days availability during weekdays are required.

Job Description    
The IP Network Engineer will participate as a member of the IP network engineering team for the design, engineering and implementation of a nation-wide IP network.  We are looking for a creative person that is excited about driving change through Automation.

Responsibilities    

    Learn to translate business and functional requirements into documented technical specifications.
    Utilize development skills to build (code) and unit test new systems functionality per technical specifications
    Learn to develop application support documentation
    Build and unit test production deployment packages and implementation plans
    Participate in reviews (walk-throughs) of technical specifications and program code with other members of the technical team

Qualifications    

    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
    Experience developing Python applications, or equivalent experience in another dynamic programming language such as Ruby or Perl.
    Scripting experience in Shell or Power shell
    Ability to design clean, concise, and reliable software architectures
    Strong debugging skills
    Experience with LINUX


Desired

    Exposure to Django, Ansible, Tail-F and / or Tower
    While this is not a Cisco network engineer position, experience in configuring and deploying Cisco devices is highly valuable.
    Knowledge of Cisco Networks and devices.

·         Perform and prepare engineering calculations including energy, load, photometrics, voltage drop, etc. and well-coordinated, technically sound construction documents that are cost-effective, clear, efficient and constructible
·         Perform pre-design site visits, attend design meetings, and prepare construction phase site observations to present in detailed technical narrative reports
·         Construction administration including review of shop drawings, response to RFI’s, and coordination with contractors, design team, building officials, owner, etc. through the construction phase of the building project
·         Communicate and coordinate with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, vendors, consultants, etc. throughout the design phases of the building project
·         Meet client schedules and internal design and construction administration time budgets.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
·         FE/EIT
·         Proficiency with AutoCAD
·         Efficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Familiarity with Revit
·         Familiarity with electrical load calculations programs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (PE)

·         Electrical engineering of electrical systems for institutional, retail and commercial building projects including design of lighting and power distribution.
·         Researches and analyzes data to determine feasibility of design and application.
·         Develops and manages project scope, budgets, schedules, QA/QC reviews and client expectations ensuring that cost, customer service, quality, schedule and safety are incorporated into the design from commencement through completion.
·         Creates and edits designs, specifications, sketches and diagrams of electrical systems.
·         Performs and prepares engineering calculations including energy, load, photometrics, voltage drop, etc.
·         Constructs well-coordinated, technically sound construction documents that are cost-effective, clear, efficient and constructible.
·         Researches non-routine code compliance issues and makes determinations of code interpretations consistent with local administrative authorities.
·         Performs field observations of electrical systems, attends meetings, and makes recommendations for design systems.
·         Construction administration including review of shop drawings, response to RFI’s, and coordination with contractors, design team, building officials, owner, etc. through the construction phase of the building project.
·         Meets client schedules and internal design and construction administration time budgets.
·         Produces effective and accurate written documents, reports, and technical memorandums.
·         Communicates and coordinates with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, vendors, consultants, etc. throughout the design phases of the building project.
·         Coordinates the works of designers and engineers-in-training

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree program
·         Registration and designation as a Professional Engineer (PE)
·         A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the engineering of electrical power systems
·         Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and other industry standards
·         Proficiency in MS Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit
·         Working knowledge of SKM or equivalent systems analysis program for evaluating electrical systems
·         Working knowledge of low voltage systems (fire alarm, telecommunications, etc.)
