ALCOA is interested in hiring students for 6 month opportunities beginning during ANY quarter of the year. If students are interested, they should send their resume and a cover letter (if possible) to wieman@uw.edu and it will be forwarded to the ALCOA representative. Interested students should NOT MISS the opportunity to meet with ALCOA representatives on Thursday, May 26, 2011, in EE303 from 3-4:30pm.
Works under the direction of a Staff or Process Engineer on the following engineering special projects in the Maintenance department:
· Collect power system equipment and cable data (e.g. cable lengths, cable sizes, conduit material, fuse sizes, circuit breaker catalog number and settings, transformer nameplate info)
· Enter collected power system data into Easypower model
· Use Easypower software to calculate arc flash hazards and print labels
· Apply labels on equipment in field
· Formulate and propose solutions for resolving exposure issues for areas of the plant where arc flash hazard is higher than allowed (> 40 cal.cm-2)
· Enhance utility of plant Easypower file by adding equipment and load details on equipment such as MCCs and Power distribution panels
· Collect and validate grounding grid condition assessment data
· Assist with prioritizing repairs based on local grid condition
· Obtain excavation permits or assist with process when and if project is handed over to 3rd party
· Ensure installation of ground grid repair and enhancement (new) materials complies with design specifications and restores grid condition to acceptable status
· Ensure as-built drawings are made, accurate, and submitted properly for addition to the drawing system
· Assist with building and prioritizing 10-year capital projects plan for the entire substation and power distribution system for Alcoa Intalco Works
· Assist with formulating, documenting and standardizing maintenance procedures for Low Voltage (LV) switchgear, LV circuit breakers, grounding, and associated equipment
· Assist with formulating, documenting and standardizing maintenance procedures for High Voltage (HV) switchgear, HV circuit breakers and switches, grounding, and associated equipment
