Presented by the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneur Week is an annual window into the world of entrepreneurship. Over the course of five days, the Buerk Center hosts events featuring Seattle’s high-profile thinkers, dreamers, innovators, and doers. Whether you’re a die-hard entrepreneur, interested in working for a startup, or just entre-curious, this is your opportunity to meet and learn from venture capitalists, startup CEOs, and serial entrepreneurs. DubHacks
October 17-18
October 17 and 18 will mark the inaugural DubHacks Hackathon, the first and largest hackathon in the Pacific Northwest. Hosted by Startup UW, Sudo Soldiers, and the Informatics Undergraduate Association (IUGA).

Intel-Cornell Cup Competition

Looking for undergraduate research assistants

The NSF funded Ocean-TUNE project (http://www.oceantune.org/) seeks to establish a community ocean testbed for underwater wireless networks. It includes researchers from four universities with expertise in acoustics, communications, networking, systems engineering, and oceanography.

SeaLinx is a Linux implementation of the network protocol stack and an efficient and reliable framework for underwater sensor networks. We are looking for motivated undergraduate students for future development of Sealinx. This platform will be used by the UW EE Fundamentals of Networking Laboratory for underwater experiments in the Puget Sound region in collaboration with the Applied Physics Laboratory.

You will have an opportunity to work with researchers in wireless communications and earn research credit.

Qualifications: Experienced in C/C++ programming in Linux, debugging, and basic understanding of the communication protocol stack and networking.

Expectations: Program and debug, operate acoustic modems, conduct field studies in teams. Please send your resume highlighting your programming experience and background to Noshad Bagha at nbagha@uw.edu

At U Lead We Lead, you get to listen to interesting talks by smart people and then talk about what you heard in small groups. Shine a light on teamwork, respect, responsibility, and civic engagement through dynamic reflection and rich conversation.

Boren Scholarships & Fellowships for language study abroad - UW information sessions

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are also available for students planning to study critical languages abroad during 2015-16 and who are interested in government work. Again, please share this information widely with students in all fields interested in studying languages abroad.

We are fortunate to have a representative from the Boren Awards program visiting UW on Oct. 14 to provide information to students, faculty and staff. Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded. For a complete list of countries, click here.

Boren Scholars represent a variety of academic backgrounds, but all are interested in studying less commonly taught languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. For a complete list of languages, click here.

Boren Scholarships are funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), which focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Applicants should identify how their study abroad program, as well as their future academic and career goals, will contribute to U.S. national security, broadly defined.  NSEP draws on a broad definition of national security, recognizing that the scope of national security has expanded to include not only the traditional concerns of protecting and promoting American well-being, but also the challenges of global society, including sustainable development, environmental degradation, global disease and hunger, population growth and migration, and economic competitiveness. Undergraduate applicants must apply through UW to be considered for the Boren Undergraduate Scholarship Program. UW Seattle's deadline for undergraduate applicants is January 8, 2015 for study abroad programs during the 2015-16 academic year.
