OWRC Hiring Call

The Odegaard Writing and Research Center (OWRC) is now hiring for peer tutor positions with Autumn Quarter start dates. We are looking for applications from both undergraduate and graduate students in all fields who will be enrolled at UW Seattle during the 2012-2013 academic year. Paid positions include both part-time and substitute peer tutor positions. Pay rates depend on academic status: undergraduates and pre-MA or pre-MS graduate students start at $10.00/hour; post-MA or post-MS graduate students start at $15.00/hour.

The OWRC, an interdisciplinary writing and research center which aims to support UW Seattle students, staff, and faculty on their diverse writing and research projects through 45-minute, one-to-one tutoring sessions. It is an engaging and rewarding place to work, and we hope to hear more from you!

Go GREEN/Costa Rica Sustainable Engineering Abroad

The Global Renewable Energy Education Network (GREEN) is a global experiential learning program taking place in Costa Rica and focusing on topics of renewable energy and sustainability. In 2011 we worked with over 60 universities across the United States and have influenced the lives of over 300 students. This summer we will be hosting 250 students on our summer programs alone.

Our international learning opportunity offers students a 12-Day life changing experience in Costa Rica. Students receive exclusive access to five different  state of the art renewable energy facilities including: Geothermal, Biomass, Wind, Solar and Hydroelectric. During these site visits students interact with expert industry professionals who teach the students about the workings of the facility, and also offer opportunities beyond the program such as internships in Costa Rica and career mentorship. In addition to the clean energy site visits, students learn about sustainable practices in Engineering, Business, Agriculture, Architecture and Public Policy. The program is jam-packed with non-stop learning containing 62 total contact hours with numerous cultural immersion and adventure activities all within the 12-Day time period.

XBOT ROBOTICS Workshop Space in Seattle!

XBOT ROBOTICS creates opportunities for elementary, middle and high school students to learn Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through robotics.  XBOT ROBOTICS aims to foster positive experiences and apprenticeships with technology.

However, we are much, much more! We have just opened a work space in Seattle that features a well equipped machine shop, common space available to work on projects, and space available to rent to store your own tools. More information on what we do can be found at www.xbotrobotics.org.

As a Product Manufacturing Engineeer within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team you will assists in the design and implement automated test equipment (hardware and software) in support of precision instruments such as accelerometers, rate sensors and thermal switches. Basic Qualifications

·        Minimum 5 years experience in engineering.

Additional Qualifications
 
·        Experience in developing and maintaining test equipment.

Controls Engineer Hummingbird Scientific


Hummingbird Scientific is looking for a highly motivated engineer to lead projects related to developing scientific instruments used in the transmission electron microscope, ion microscopes, and atomic force microscopes. We are looking for someone with a wide range of experience in design of control and/or mechatronic systems. Expertise in control software (specifically Labview) and electronics is key. Planning skills are also important for this job.

Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Design of control systems
- Control software (specifically Labview)
- Electronics design
- System assembly and testing
- Project scheduling

Principal background and skills needed:
- BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or closely related field
- Control software design experience
- Extensive LabView experience
- Electronic circuit design
- Practical hands on skills with all standard electronic instruments (power supplies, scopes, function generators etc.)
- Hands-on skills for wiring, soldering boards, packaging, assembly
- Experience using 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Solid references

Desired background and skills:
- MS/Ph D in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or closely related field
- Design of mechatronic systems
- Project planning experience, particularly of multiple small projects
