SBIR Road Tour
When: Wednesday, August 19
Where: 200 Startup Hall, 1100 NE Campus Parkway
What: The
SBIR Road Tour is a national outreach effort to convey the non-dilutive
technology funding opportunity provided through
the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business
Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. The SBIR/STTR programs annually
provide $2.5 billion in funding to small advanced technology firms to
spur new technological discoveries and facilitate the
commercialization of innovations. Together they represent America's
Largest Seed Fund.
Local
innovation supporters in communities who have historically
underutilized the opportunities provided through the SBIR/STTR programs
have invited representatives of America's
Largest Seed Fund to engage the small advanced technology community,
including women and minority-owned research and development businesses.

WTIA Full ConTech: The Ultimate Tournament For Technologists

PhD-level Openings at Intel Portland Technology Development Group
The Portland Technology Development group of Intel Corporation currently
has openings for physical science Ph.D.s to support/direct R&D of
advanced processing methods. Candidates hired for these positions will
be responsible for developing the next generation of Intel's
microprocessors.
Ph.D.
candidates in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical
Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related
fields are encouraged to apply. Criteria for selection include: a
strong academic record, demonstrated experimental and data analysis
expertise, superior critical thinking skills, an ability to drive and
take responsibility for projects and a solid peer-reviewed publication
record. Experience using and maintaining scientific equipment is
preferred. Semiconductor processing experience is not mandatory.

JOB DESCRIPTION
PTD
Module Engineers are responsible for leading scientific research and
enabling manufacture of innovative device architectures coupled with the
realization of these architectures. Responsibilities include designing,
executing and analyzing experiments necessary to meet engineering
specifications for their process. A Module Engineer participates in the
development of intellectual property and the development of the
equipment necessary to exploit understanding gained in research (in
collaboration with equipment suppliers.) The Engineer must work
effectively with the equipment supplier to identify shortcomings,
propose and evaluate hardware modification to mitigate issues and
operate the manufacturing line in order to integrate the many individual
steps necessary for the manufacture of complex microprocessors. Module
Engineers are also responsible for overseeing in-situ ramp to
manufacturing volumes to demonstrate that the technology meets
requirements while simultaneously transferring the technology to
counterparts in manufacturing via 'Copy Exactly!' methodology. Module
ownership includes the install and qualification of manufacturing
capacity at the development site and audit installation/qualification
and supervision of first full loop at the production site. Must hold a
PhD.
Qualifications
You
must possess a minimum of a Ph.D. degree majoring in Physics, Material
Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
Criteria
for selection include: a strong academic record, demonstrated
experimental and data analysis expertise, superior critical thinking
skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, creativity
and flexibility to thrive under changing priorities, strong teamwork
skills, an ability to drive and take responsibility for projects and a
solid peer-reviewed publication record. Experience using and maintaining
scientific equipment is preferred. Semiconductor processing experience
is not mandatory.

BS-MS Program Deadline Extension
We have extended the deadline for nominations to our BS-MS combined bachelor and master's degree students to August 15, 2015.
The
BS-MS combined degree program provides early acceptance into our highly
competitive MSEE program for those students with an orientation towards
academic research that wish to take their education to the next level.
The BS-MS selection process is different than our standard graduate
admission pathway:
- Interested students must solicit two nominations from UWEE faculty, one of whom will agree to serve as their research advisor.
- Interested students must demonstrate a cumulative gpa above 3.7 for consideration, be a current UWEE student (Seattle campus only) and have completed through their third year of undergraduate study or 135 quarter credits.

EE 501 - Radar Remote Sensing
I would like to invite you to take EE501 -- Radar Remote Sensing, this Autumn (SLN 22471). It will be taught Tuesday and Thursday 2:30--4:20.
In
the class we'll take a statistical signal processing tour of radar,
including the radar equation (link budget), radar waveform designs for
pulse compression, as well as some basic estimation and detection
theory. We'll work with real and synthetic data sets from active and
passive radars. We'll also introduce radar imaging through aperture synthesis an interferometry.
Prerequisite
material: basic statistics (EE505), signal processing (EE442), and
electromagnetics (EE361) are helpful. Advanced undergrads are welcome
to consult with me about taking this course.

Environmental Studies Students Open UW Farm Stand Friday!
We
here at UW Farm would like to announce the opening of a farm produce
stand this summer, and we're inviting you to come join us and support
our very own
volunteer-driven agricultural enterprise. Enjoy seasonal, sustainably
sourced, picked-that-morning fresh produce grown just two miles away,
along with great music, refreshments, and delicious seasonal recipe
ideas.
Starting
July 24th, the farm stand will be open Fridays from 4pm-7pm, in the
Fisheries Supply parking lot at 1900 N. Northlake Way. We're right along
the Burke-Gilman
Trail and directly across from the Gasworks Park parking lot. Keep us
in mind and we hope to see you there!

Course:
LSJ / CHID / DIS ST 230 Introduction to Disability Studies
Lectures on Mon. & Wed. 10:00-11:20, and quiz sections on Tues. & Thurs.
Date available: Autumn Quarter 2015
Application deadline: Monday, August 3, 2015
General duties:
1.
Attending all lectures.
2.
Leading quiz sections (format will usually be discussion of readings and lecture materials).
3.
Reading all course materials.
4.
Holding office hours and responding to email from students.
5.
Grading all assignments submitted by the students in your quiz sections and maintaining grading records.
6.
Attending regular meetings with the instructor.
7.
Optional: prepare and deliver one or two lectures.
Hiring criteria: Graduate students in any discipline with a background in the academic field of disability studies are encouraged
to apply.
Salary:
Salary is commensurate with academic standing, qualifications, and experience.
